If you have never ridden a motorcycle before, you need to take a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) course. The CBT is usually a one-day practical motorcycle course which, if you pass, will allow you access to smaller engine bikes which are noted below. There are many different motorcycle training schools who offer CBT courses and the fee is approximately £120.
- 16 year olds can ride a 50cc engine motorcycle -
- 17 years and older can ride up to a 125cc engine motorcycle -
Note: You are allowed to ride on a CBT for two years whilst displaying L plates, but you may not ride with a passenger/pillion rider.
We recommend the Mid Kent Motorcycle Training School.
